What is ProjectE?
ProjectE is a recreation and continuation of the classic Equivalent Exchange 2 mod, introducing the Energy-Matter Covalence (EMC) system to Minecraft. This mod allows you to convert items into EMC energy and transmute them into other items, providing an alternative to traditional resource gathering once you've established your EMC generation.
Core Concepts
What is EMC?
EMC (Energy-Matter Covalence) is the fundamental currency of ProjectE:
- Every item has an EMC value
- Items can be converted to EMC
- EMC can be used to create learned items
- EMC is stored in Klein Stars and Transmutation Tables
Learning System
To create items, you must first "learn" them:
- Automatic Learning: Pick up an item to learn it
- Manual Learning: Place in Transmutation Table
- Tome of Knowledge: Share knowledge between players
- Linked: Knowledge persists across worlds (configurable)
Essential Items
Philosopher's Stone
The foundation of ProjectE:
- Crafting Tool: Used in many ProjectE recipes
- Right-Click: Change between modes
- Shift + Right-Click: Opens transmutation GUI
- Transmutation: Convert items in-hand
Common Transmutations:
From | To |
---|---|
4 Cobblestone | 1 Stone |
4 Gravel | 1 Sand |
4 Stone | 1 Cobblestone |
8 Logs | 1 Iron Ore |
Transmutation Table
The main interface for EMC conversion:
- Input Chest: Place items to convert to EMC
- Search Bar: Find learned items
- Item Grid: Shows all learned items
- EMC Display: Current EMC balance
- Output: Create items using EMC
Transmutation Tablet
Portable version of Transmutation Table:
- Inventory Access: Works from inventory
- Keybind: Open with hotkey (default: C)
- Same Functions: As table but portable
- More Expensive: Requires more resources
Energy Collectors
Passive EMC generation from sunlight:
Energy Collector Tiers
Tier | EMC/Second | Storage | Upgrade Cost |
---|---|---|---|
Mk1 | 4 EMC/s | 10,000 EMC | Base |
Mk2 | 12 EMC/s | 30,000 EMC | Expensive |
Mk3 | 40 EMC/s | 60,000 EMC | Very Expensive |
Optimization Tips
- Fuel Items: Place items with EMC in collectors to boost production
- Klein Stars: Store excess EMC from collectors
- Multiple Collectors: Build arrays for massive production
- Sunlight Only: Doesn't work at night or in dimension without sun
Anti-Matter System
Anti-Matter Relay
Connects multiple Energy Collectors:
- Input: Receives EMC from collectors
- Output: Distributes to connected blocks
- Range: 12 block radius
- Network: Connect multiple relays
Anti-Matter Condenser
Automated item creation:
- Target Item: Set item to produce
- EMC Input: From relays or manual
- Auto-Craft: Continuously creates target item
- Output: Pipes items out automatically
Setup:
- Place Anti-Matter Condenser
- Connect to Relay network
- Set target item (place one in target slot)
- Wait for EMC accumulation
- Items automatically craft when enough EMC
Klein Stars
Portable EMC storage:
Star | EMC Capacity |
---|---|
Klein Star Ein | 50,000 EMC |
Klein Star Zwei | 200,000 EMC |
Klein Star Drei | 800,000 EMC |
Klein Star Vier | 3.2 Million EMC |
Klein Star Sphere | 12.8 Million EMC |
Klein Star Omega | 51.2 Million EMC |
Uses
- EMC Storage: Bank EMC for later use
- Fuel Source: Power Energy Collectors
- Transfer: Move EMC between systems
- Upgrades: Higher tiers store more EMC

Balance Considerations
Why ProjectE Can Be "Overpowered"
- Resource Generation: Infinite resources once established
- Bypasses Progression: Can skip mining/farming
- Flight: Early creative flight from Red Matter armor
- No Resource Scarcity: Eliminates material costs
How Modpacks Balance It
- Disabled Items: Some items blacklisted
- Custom EMC Values: Adjusted EMC costs
- Gated Progression: Locked behind quests
- Reduced Generation: Lower collector output
Tips for Success
- Start Small: Begin with single transmutation table
- Learn Valuable Items: Focus on high-EMC items early
- Klein Star Progression: Upgrade stars as you can afford
- Collector Arrays: Build in well-lit areas
- Auto-Feeding: Automate item input to table
- Condenser Networks: Set up multiple condensers for different items
- Don't Rush Red Matter: Dark Matter tier is sufficient for most tasks
Common Mistakes
- Converting Valuables Early: Keep rare items until you have backup EMC
- No Klein Stars: Always keep EMC stored in Klein Stars
- Ignoring Collectors: Collectors are key to passive EMC
- Not Learning Items: Pick up everything to expand your transmutation options
- Over-Reliance: Don't forget other progression paths

Summary
ProjectE provides an alternative resource management system through EMC conversion. While powerful, it requires significant investment to reach late-game automation. The Energy-Matter Covalence system adds a unique progression path focused on knowledge and energy rather than traditional mining and crafting.
