Pokemon Breeding

Create the perfect Pokemon through breeding and hatching mechanics in Cobblemon.

Why Breed Pokemon?

Breeding enables players to build optimal teams by selectively passing down traits like Nature, IVs, Abilities, and Moves. This encourages a new layer of progression for both casual and competitive players.

Egg Generation

Pokemon wandering in a Pasture have a 50% chance every 10 minutes to generate an egg. Eggs are locked to the owner or creative players. To collect an egg, just right-click it.

Hatching Eggs

Eggs must be carried in your hotbar to hatch. Hatching is based on walking distance: movement must fall between walking and sprinting with Speed 4. Abuse attempts like water, pistons, or vehicles are filtered out.

Each egg requires a certain number of Egg Cycles to hatch. One Egg Cycle is about 336 blocks. Examples:

  • Magikarp - 5 Egg Cycles (~1680 blocks)
  • Mewtwo - 120 Egg Cycles (~40,320 blocks)

Certain Pokemon abilities like Flame Body, Magma Armor, and Steam Engine double the egg progress while in your party.

Running counts. Elytra, vehicles, and creative mode flight do not.

Hatch Mechanics

Only one egg can hatch per cycle. This prevents mass hatching and makes each event feel special.

Example:

  • 9 eggs at 1 cycle left ? 1 egg hatches, 8 eggs now have 1 cycle left
  • 9 eggs at 20 cycles ? all drop to 19 after a cycle

If the player is in the air when a hatch is triggered, theyll be notified and the hatch will occur next time theyre safely on the ground.

When an egg hatches:

  • An animation plays
  • The Pokemon spawns into the world
  • If your party has space, it joins automatically
  • If not, it goes to your PC after 5 seconds

Egg Ownership

The egg belongs to the female Pokemon's owner. If no female is present, the game randomly chooses one of the parents owners.
